At Bath ASU, our commitment to sustainability is intertwined with our mission to produce and administer life-changing medicines for patients.
Recognising the link between climate change and health, we are dedicated to addressing our environmental impact.
As part of our Net Zero Goals, we align with the NHS and the aims set out in the NHSE paper ‘Delivering a Net Zero National Health Service,’ striving to achieve net zero by 2040 for emissions under our control and 2045 for those we can influence.
We are constantly reviewing all stages of our manufacturing and delivery processes to ensure we are making improvements towards these aims.
As a part of this review, our delivery packaging has been identified as an area for improvement.
Currently Bath ASU packages items in cardboard packing boxes filled with packing chips (pictured below). These are not recyclable and therefore as part of our sustainability aims we are changing the packaging we use to an alternative that is 100% recyclable.
This should not affect the service you receive from Bath ASU in the supply of vital medicines. There will however be changes to the way that deliveries are packed and the cartons that you receive items in.
Bath ASU will now use three sizes of cartons for packaging deliveries. These are made from a minimum of 60% recycled materials and are 100% recyclable after use.
This will reduce the amount of unnecessary packaging used at Bath ASU for smaller consignments and ensure the end user can fully recycle the carton.
Bath ASU will be using green air-filled wrapper quilts to package medicines inside the carton replacing the green packing chips.
This will align with our corporate social responsibility aims as the wrapper quilts are made from 100% recycled high-density polyethylene and can be either reused or recycled by the customer.
The packaging has been subject to all relevant validations as part of our internal change control process, to ensure that it meets the required standards for both ambient and chilled transportation and delivery.
